One month down...

What's up...

So I'm sorry I haven't been updating this that often, but it probably doesn't matter because I don't think anybody looks at it that often. It's just hard to find time to get on the computer and when I do get a chance, I have to check my email and read Dannie's jokes in the little time that I do have.

So anyways, not much is new out here. We got a couple of rocket attacks a few days after we got here, but for the last couple of weeks here, it's been pretty quiet. You know how they say no news is good news, so I guess there is nothing but good news to report.

So now I man the vehicle checkpoint for about 6 hours everyday. It's not a bad detail- the first few days I was so worried somebody was gonna drive up with a bomb in the car, and I guess if you wanted to be truthful about it, it is one of the more dangerous (meaning exposure to the enemy) posts on the camp, but then again, this isn't Iraq. We have a good group of local Afghani soldiers on base that are good about letting us know who the bad guys are. I'll get you all some pictures of me out there on the gate when I get a chance.

Okay, that's it for now, I'll be in touch. Oh, and there used to be a little comment section on here, and now it went away. When I get a chance, I'll do some troubleshooting, because I like getting comments. Take care... and drink a beer for me!

Ok, people... I'm getting there. So I finally got a way to update this thing on a regular basis, so start checking here more often. I got a lot to tell everyone, so I want to get this thing down. So this is my little test to see how well pictures come out. Here goes nothing...

Sorry I haven't been updating this as often as needs be.... don't think I've abandoned this idea, it's just a little hard to post given the limited time I have on the computer. I'll start typing my posts beforehand and then just pasting them in, so you should be able to see updates at least twice a week. With pictures!!

First posting...

Ok, so this is my attempt to kinda keep everybody updated as to what's going on with me and how my time in Afghanistan is going. I don't know how often I'll get to update this, so you have to keep checking back- don't think I've forgotten about it if I don't post for a couple of days; I am at war after all.

Ok, so we took off from Hawaii around 1600 on Saturday (the exact date escapes me-you'll se why in a minute) and flew into Seattle. We landed there about 1 in the morning, I guess. Couldn't do much, everything was closed- they just kinda let us walk around in the airport for a while. Took off from there and flew into Goose Bay, Canada, which is in Newfoundland. According to Mapquest, it's about a 32 hour, 1500 mile drive north of New York City, but just know that it's on the very east coast of Canada. (Which was crazy, because we'd just left Hawaii and it was 85 degrees; we get there and there's snow on the ground- lots of it.)

Anyways, left Canada and flew into Frankfurt, Germany. By this time it was dark again, about 12 or 1 at night, so we really couldn't see anything. I think I have one picture of Germany- I'll post them later when I can. So anyways, we left Germany and flew into Bishkek, Kyrgystan. Trust me, it's not near anywhere you would know unless you're a geography major. It borders China, but was once part of Russia, so there's lots of Chinese people here that speak Russian, but that's cool. Anyways we're stuck here for a few days until we catch our flight into Afghanistan, so I'll keep you posted. That's it for now, I gotta run...
